A miserable Wednesday night saw us have to travel to Kewford's 2nd ground due to our own pitch at Trysull not being available.
The pitch was a reasonable size and in decent condition but obviously the going was heavy and miserable for the lads in the driving rain.
Starting line up for Trysull:
Harry in goal, Jake and Luke at the back with Sam sitting just in front of them, Joe on the left, Benji in the middle and Kian on the right.
We did not start particularly well and were not passing the ball around and clearing our lines as well as we should have been, Kewford sensed this and applied pressure, constantly pumping the ball forward. A steady build up from Kewford saw them slip through to pump the ball home to make it 1-0 at half time.
Substitutions at half time- Connor on for Harry in goal, Dan on for Joe with Kian switching to the left and Dan playing down the right.
From the re-start the lads were far more up for the game and we applied constant pressure on the Kewford defence, winning the midfield battle and carving out some great opportunities, this opened the game up and Jake and Luke were steady at the back with Sam having a really good game and having a couple of good long range shots. We had a number of opportunities where Trysull were 3 on 2 and even 4 on 2 against the Kewford defence but we could just not make the pressure pay. Then we pushed forward on mass with Sam driving forward strongly, his shot was blocked and a scramble in the Kewford box saw Kian and Benji strking shots that rebounded and Sam stepped up and slammed the ball home to even the score at 1-1.
Substitution - Billy on for Sam.
We went at Kewford strongly again and Kewford came back at us well and forced a couple of corners that Connor dealt with well, a speculative Kewford shot struck the top side of our crossbar.
Substitution - Harry on for Benji.
We really went for the win and Harry put a couple of great balls down the line that Dan picked up well, then Harry cut in to the middle and from outside the box he got his foot under the ball and lifted it on the half volley over the Kewford keeper only to see the ball drop about 2 inches wide of the right hand post. Everyone thinking it was in.
Kian pushed up well and Billy really had a really good game when he came on.
Final score 1-1.
This was a game that we deserved to win and me and gav feel that Kewford were lucky to get a point from this.
The referee awarded the Man-of-the-Match award to Luke for some great tackling and strong running, well done Luke.
That is our season finished and we have finished in 8th place in the top division of the strongest league in our area, that for me and Gav, is an achievement in our 1st season in competitive football and we will obviously be looking to improve on this position and move well in to the top half of the table next season.
The lads have done us proud this season and we should all be very proud of each and every one of them.
We have a couple of tournaments to look forward to.
Thanks to all of you parents for your ongoing support .
